Broodmare Analysis: Adare Manor
The multiple G1 winner has been retired and will sell at Fasig-Tipton November
This past week, it was announced that three-time G1 winner Adare Manor had been retired and will sell at Fasig-Tipton’s November Sale on November 4th. Last seen successfully defending her title in the G1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes, Adare Manor was also victorious in this year’s G1 Apple Blossom Handicap and G2 Santa Margarita Stakes. She was a winner of ten of 18 career starts for trainer Bob Baffert and owner Michael Lund Petersen and earned over $2 million.
With breeding season approaching and breeding plans to be made, I thought Adare Manor’s retirement would be a great opportunity to give a glimpse into how I would approach a mating decision for this mare from a pedigree perspective. This will not be formatted as a breeding report, but as more of a stream-of-consciousness look into my initial thought process when evaluating a mare.
The daughter of Uncle Mo is a member of the prolific Lowe family 5h, and also presents some interesting linebreeding opportunities with the likes of Radio Star, a half-brother to Dynaformer, as her second damsire. Adare Manor’s tenth dam, Rough Shod, is a key member of family 5h, as the dam of four stakes winners, including 1965 Champion Two-Year-Old Filly Moccasin. Rough Shod’s branch of family 5h is responsible for stallions such as Nureyev, Sadler’s Wells, Blame, Stormy Atlantic, and Northern Meteor.
Adare Manor possesses multiple strains of her sire’s female family 8c. In addition to Uncle Mo, she out of a mare who is inbred 3x3 to family 8c’s Storm Cat, and her third damsire Editor’s Note is also a member of that family. Her damsire, Giant Gizmo, is a member of the related family 8a.
