Claim Watch: Boss Cara
This mare is entered for $25,000 but sold for $120,000 as a two-year-old and has a very solid pedigree
On my old blog, I did a series of posts highlighting claiming fillies and mares I thought might make useful broodmares, and I’d like to get back to highlighting mares that I think have the credentials to make them interesting as broodmare prospects. Note that this is meant as a hypothetical exercise and is not intended to be a recommendation to buy or claim a horse. Please let me know whether this is something you’d like to see more of in the future!
Some of the criteria I’m looking for include:
Fillies and mares with black type in the immediate family and a strong deeper pedigree
Fillies and mares with pedigree influences that are complemented by stallions standing for $25,000 or less
Ideally, fillies and mares that are younger than six
Ideally, fillies and mares who sold for $100,000 or more at auction (hopefully indicating that they’re fairly well-conformed individuals)
